How to Build an RV Cover with Solar Panels.
In this post, Sun Capital Energy will walk you through the steps on how to build a custom RV carport while adding optimal energy efficiency with solar panels.
When Sun Capital Energy was asked if they could build a custom RV carport that could withstand high winds the answer was a resounding yes! Adding solar panels to the project was a no-brainer for both the owner and the contractor.
The owner of Sun Capital Energy Omar Ramirez is always looking to help his clientèle become more energy efficient. In addition, some homeowners are not always keen to placing solar panels on their roofs out of personal preference. THE FOOTING
The first step is to dig four 10ft. x 2ft. wide holes for the metal posts. They then trenched an 18″ wide x 18″ deep trench for the footers to connect all the steel poles. This served as reinforcement for any potential seismic activity. They used rebar for the pole footings increased reinforcement against high-winds.
The home is in an area where high-winds are notorious for reaching speeds above 60 mph. Once the posts and rebar were in Sun Capital Energy poured the cement for the footing. This RV carport will remain safe, secure, and strong for many decades.
SQUARE
Once the cement was cured they began the welding for the post caps. With post caps in place, Sun Capital Energy dropped two huge 12″ x 6″ x 30′ long beams on all four posts. Making sure all the work was perfectly aligned and square.
Sun Capital Energy is a detailed oriented company so making sure everything is square is of utmost importance. Rafters were then positioned equally.
RAFTERS & METAL SHEETING
Once the rafters were in place they began the roof phase of the project. This entails rolling out the roofing paper and placing custom sheet metal for the roofing. We then added the solar panel footings attaching them to the rafters.
INSTALLATION of SOLAR PANELS
The next step is to install rails for the SolarEdge optimizers We use SolarEdge optimizers simply because of their reputation for being the best in the solar panel industry.
See the SolarEdge awards page for yourself. They have amassed a number of awards throughout their company history. SolarEdge inverter was mounted on one of the posts. We trenched 150′ to the main electrical panel where it is connected to the grid.
